Australian Women’s team defeated India Women’s team by nine wickets to win their 25th ODI match in a row.

Australia gave India a nine-wicket thrashing in the opening women’s ODI to extend their record winning streak to 25 matches, exposing India’s batting and bowling flaws. India seeking to score 250 or more runs regularly to compete with the likes of Australia, could only manage 225 for eight in an innings that never got off.
Along with the contribution of veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami, Richa Ghosh, and Yastika Bhatia, Skipper Mithali Raj (61 of 107) has achieved her fifth consecutive fifty, and her 59th overall.

As India’s bowling lacked the edge to threaten Australia, they were able to chase down the score in 41 overs. The last time the four-time World Cup winners lost an ODI was in October of 2017. After a slow start of 30 runs in eight overs, Alyssa Healy and Rachael Haynes switched gears to take control of the game.
With her dominating stroke of eight fours and a couple of sixes, Healy was the aggressor in their 126-run stand. She was eventually caught at midfield by leggie Poonam Yadav trying to knock another one out of the ground. Haynes and Meg Lanning then put up a 101-run stand to lead Australia to victory.

India has a lot to consider and plan for the second ODI of the three gold medal series, which was featured in three debutants including Ghosh, Yastika, and pacer Mansi Singh. India’s decision to field three all-rounders, Sneh Rana, Deepti Sharma, and Pooja Vastrakar, rather than a specialist left-arm spinner, backfired.

India was never able to put Australia under strain despite Megha’s ability to swing the ball and Jhulan bowling a crisp performance as usual. On the batting front, the visitors would not have reached the 220-run mark if it hadn’t been for a 45-run eighth-wicket stand between Jhulan and Ghosh, who was picked ahead of Taniya Bhatia to provide some much-needed firepower. After hitting a few boundaries, India openers Shafali Verma (8) and Smriti Mandhana (16), who the team largely relies on for good starts, faded. The bowlers have picked up on Shafali’s apparent vulnerability and are refusing to bowl front-foot balls to her.
