During my lean period, I spoke with Virat Kohli, reveals Ishan Kishan
In Mumbai Indians’ (MI) vs Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 51 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season in Sharjah on Tuesday, Ishan Kishan hit an unbeaten 50 runs off 25 balls. MI went on to win by eight wickets, and Kishan was able to establish himself in the UAE. Since the IPL 2021 season began in September, the wicketkeeper-batsman has struggled. In MI’s first three matches in the UAE leg of the tournament, he scored only 11, 14 and nine points.
He was then benched for the next two games for his team. With a stunning half-century to mark his comeback to the playing XI, the India international will be looking to justify his selection for the T20 World Cup in the coming games.
During the post-match presentation, Kishan disclosed that he had a brief conversation with Virat Kohli following his bad performances, and the Team India captain offered his support.
“Ups and downs, in my opinion, are an important part of any player’s life. I wasn’t in great shape either. The majority of batsmen were not getting runs like they had in prior seasons. We have a wonderful support team. Our captain… In fact, I spoke with Virat Bhai and Hardik Bhai… everyone was there to cheer me on “, he explained.
“I spoke with KP (Pollard), who advised me to keep things simple and bat the way I used to. All I had to do was review videos of what I did last season. I was able to gain some confidence after seeing a few movies of my batting “, he went on to say.
Kishan also expressed his delight at returning to the squad, saying that it felt wonderful to be back.
“It feels good to be back in the starting lineup, scoring runs for the team and contributing to a huge win. Feeling great was important for our team to get pace. It was beneficial to field first since I was able to get a good sense of the surface. Our strategy was to keep things as straight as possible. The strategy was to simply play in the V, which the batsmen did admirably “, he explained.
MI has caught up to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after the win, and the two teams are equal on points (12) with one game remaining. Due to a stronger net run-rate, the Eoin Morgan-led side is ahead of Rohit Sharma’s side in fourth place.
