Nawazuddin Siddiqui Is No Longer Working On OTT Series?
Nawazuddin Siddiqui was already a household star in Bollywood, but his extraordinary performance in the OTT show Sacred Games catapulted him to new heights.
The actor, on the other hand, says ‘No More’ to working on OTT platforms, and here’s why!
“The platform has become a dumping ground for superfluous programming,” he adds in an interview. We either have shows that don’t deserve to be viewed in the first place or follow-ups to shows that don’t have anything else to say.”
The ‘freshness’ of these platforms, according to Nawazuddin, is also gone. “There was an enthusiasm and challenge around the digital media when I completed Sacred Games for Netflix.” New talent was being given the opportunity to shine. That newness has vanished. Big production firms and celebrities who are now so-called stars on the OTT platform have turned it into a Dhanda (racket). All of the major players in the OTT market have negotiated lucrative arrangements with Bollywood’s major filmmakers. Producers are given huge sums of money to create as much content as they want. “Quality has been suffocated by quantity.”
“Yeh star system bade parde ko kha gaya,” he concludes. So-called celebrities are already claiming large sums of money and throwing tantrums akin to Bollywood A-listers on OTT. They lose track of time. Content reigns supreme. Woh zamana chala gala when stars were supreme. A-listers used to distribute their pictures in 3,000 theatres across the country before the lockdown and digital dominance. People didn’t have a choice but to look at them. They now have a plethora of options.
