After a thrashing win over Australia, Eoin Morgan praises England’s bowlers

Eoin Morgan, England’s captain, praised his bowlers on Saturday for their “relentless” focus, saying they had “came up trumps” on various wickets to help the team inch closer to a T20 World Cup semifinal position with three wins in a row. Chris Woakes and Chris Jordan, who chose to bowl, shook Australia’s top-order as England bowled them out for 125. England demolished Australia by eight wickets, completing the small goal of 126 with 8.2 overs to spare, with to opener Jos Buttler’s merciless 32-ball 71 not out, which complemented the outstanding bowling performance.

“We were adamant about our lengths and strategies, and the bowlers came up brilliant.” “You have to have one or two players to go to depending on how the wicket behaves, and they came up trumps,” Morgan said at the post-match presentation.

“The issue for us is adapting to conditions away from home,” he explained. “We accomplished that extremely well in the first two games, then we had a tough test against a tremendously powerful Australian side.”

In their previous matches, England had defeated the defending champions West Indies by five wickets and Bangladesh by eight wickets.

“The openers are in fantastic form, with Roy winning Man of the Match against Bangladesh and Buttler following suit. They’re all difficult.

“We treat everyone equally; it’s a tough tournament; we’re going from here to Sharjah for two games in five days.”

Chris Jordan, who was named Player of the Match for his spectacular 3/17 statistics, stated he just tried to keep it simple.

“The boys bowled well, with Woakesy (Chris Woakes) and Rash (Adil Rashid) setting the tone. Trying to keep things simple, go with the flow of the game, maintain our length, and be nice and straight, and the way the boys batted was incredible “he stated.

“Stick to your strengths and continue to improve your game, as I did with my yorkers. There are so many guys vying for a spot on the team, but everything else will take care of itself.”

Aaron Finch, Australia’s captain, bemoaned the loss of quick wickets during the power play.

“We had to hang in there when we lost a few wickets in the Powerplay, get to a score we thought would be defendable if we got it right with the ball,” he said.

“When there’s a seam early, (Chris) Woakes is a fantastic exponent. We had no choice except to bowl them out, but Buttler put up fantastic innings. We had a rough start, but after a few days off to recuperate, we’ll pick ourselves up and head back for Bangladesh.”
