After defeating Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2021 final, Chennai Super Kings players celebrate with a trophy
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won their fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) title with a 27-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final of the IPL 2021 in Dubai on Friday. As the jubilant players began their celebrations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly and Board secretary Jay Shah handed over the trophy to CSK captain MS Dhoni. As the entire contingent exploded in excitement, Dhoni handed over the trophy to his CSK teammates. The trophy celebration included the participation of the players’ children.
Dhoni won the IPL trophy for the fourth time, and with the final victory, CSK is second only behind Mumbai Indians (MI) in terms of IPL titles won.
After being asked to bat first at the Dubai International Stadium, CSK appeared to be in complete control throughout the game. Opening bowlers Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad provided CSK with a solid foundation to build on, as both in-form players grabbed control of the situation in the first few overs.
CSK batted first and posted a difficult 192/3 in 20 overs.
The only time CSK captain Dhoni was concerned was during a strong opening partnership between KKR openers Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill.
Despite having wickets at their disposal, KKR were unable to go all out in the middle and final overs, as CSK bowlers stifled run-scoring with some clever bowling.
The KKR hitters could only muster 165/9 in response, and they were eliminated from the IPL final for the first time in three years.
