Following online abuse, the BCCI extends its support to Mohammed Shami
Following the online harassment of pacer Mohammed Shami following India’s defeat on Sunday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) came out in support of him on Tuesday. After India’s loss to arch-rival Pakistan in the 2017 T20 World Cup on Sunday, Shami was subjected to internet abuse. As soon as the match ended, Shami’s followers took to Instagram and Twitter to make disparaging remarks about him. “Proud, Strong, Upward and upward,” the BCCI wrote with a photo of Shami with skipper Virat Kohli on Twitter.
Proud 🇮🇳
Strong 💪
Upward and onward 👍 pic.twitter.com/5NqknojVZj— BCCI (@BCCI) October 26, 2021
Virat Kohli, India’s captain, witnessed some rowdy crowd behaviour, and the trolls have not been nice to him, as he has been chastised for his captaincy throughout the game.
Sachin Tendulkar, Irfan Pathan, Yuzvendra Chahal, and all-rounder Yusuf Pathan also criticised the internet vitriol directed against Shami on Monday.
Returning to the game, India was bowled out for the first time in a T20I by ten wickets. This is also the first time Pakistan has won a T20I by a margin of ten wickets. On October 31, India will face New Zealand in their next match.
