For Scotland in the T20 World Cup, Richie Berrington’s one-handed “masterclass” catch

Scotland overcame Papua New Guinea by 17 runs in their T20 World Cup 2021 Group B Round 1 match at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground on Tuesday, thanks to Richie Berrington’s outstanding performance. Papua New Guinea’s chase was aided by the 34-year-70 old’s off 49 balls and a superb catch. Josh Davey bowled a full ball to batsman Simon Atai in the sixth over’s final delivery. Atai attempted a slam dunk but ended up slashing the ball towards the point where Berrington made a great one-handed catch. “Richie Berrington, not satisfied in impressing with just the bat, decides to give us a masterclass in the field too,” the ICC captioned the clip on social media.

Scotland initially won the toss and chose to bat first. Berrington’s swashbuckling innings aided his side’s 165-run total in 20 overs. With a hit of 45 runs in 36 balls, Matthew Cross also made a significant impact.

For Papua New Guinea, Kabua Morea grabbed four wickets in four overs for 31 runs.

PNG were bowled out for 148 in 19.3 overs, chasing a target of 166, with Josh Davey claiming four wickets in 3.3 overs. Only 18 runs were surrendered by Davey.

Norman Vanua batted well for his team, scoring 47 runs off 37 balls.

Scotland has now ascended to the top of Group B, while Papua New Guinea has been eliminated with one encounter remaining in the group.
