IPL2021: “Iyer will play much better in Pant’s captaincy”, said Boucher
Mark Boucher said Shreyas Iyer will be more than happy to focus on his own game after having returned from a long lay-off due to shoulder injury. Iyer was also not included in the T20 squad for World Cup.
Delhi Capitals confirmed earlier this month that Rishabh Pant will continue as captain despite Shreyas Iyer’s availability for the UAE leg of IPL 2021. Shreyas captained Delhi for 3 season and the team performed really well under his leadership. But after his shoulder injury this year Pant was appointed as captain at the start of the season and he did well leading the side to 6 wins out of 8 matches they played in India before the season was suspended due to Covid-19 cases in the bio-bubbles of franchises.
“I doubt Shreyas Iyer will be all that worried about leaving the captaincy with Rishabh Pant. Quite nice to come back in and focus on your own game,” Boucher told cricket.com.
“He has scored a mountain of runs in T20 cricket since 2019 – over 2,000 – only Shikhar Dhawan and Marcus Stoinis have scored more. He is in good shape and I don’t think it is going to bother him one little bit that Pant keeps the captaincy.” Boucher said in an interview.
