Lahore to be recreated in Film City by Sanjay Leela Bhansali for ‘Heeramandi’

For his next production “Heeramandi,” Sanjay Leela Bhansali will recreate Lahore in the pre-partition era in a Film City studio in Mumbai. Bhansali is coming towards the end of his casting process and intends to begin filming in November. Manisha Koirala will also collaborate with the director on his new web series after 25 years. In the period web series, Manisha Koirala will play one of the key characters. In 1996, the two collaborated on the classic film ‘Khamoshi.’

Aditi Rao Hydari and Sonakshi Sinha are two additional names being talked about for this show. The series takes place in Lahore and follows three generations of tawaifs (courtesans). Many of the characters are still being cast for the film, which has been written by Moin Beg and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Subrat Chakraborty, who was the art director for the film “Padmaavat,” will also design the set for “Heeramandi.”
During pre-independence India, the series will examine stories of courtesans and the secret cultural realities of Heera mandi, a colorful district. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s characteristic larger-than-life sets, multi-faceted characters, and soulful compositions are promised in this series about love, treachery, succession, and politics in the kothas.
