Mohammad Nabi wishes to return smiles to the faces of Afghanistan supporters

Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi said on Sunday, ahead of their first Super 12s game against Scotland, that the people back home would be ecstatic if the team did well in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup game. On Monday, the Sharjah Cricket Stadium will host a match between Afghanistan and Scotland. “The supporters are eagerly anticipating the camp because cricket is Afghanistan’s only source of happiness. If you’re willing to perform well in the tournament and we win games, the fans will be overjoyed, and there will be many smiles on people’s faces, and insha’Allah, everything will be different at work if we do well in the tournament”, during a virtual pre-match press conference on Sunday, Nabi said.

The cricket team’s preparations were delayed by political upheaval in Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover. Nabi, on the other hand, stated that they are eager to compete and put up a good performance.

“Everyone is aware that there has been a lot going on in Afghanistan during the last few months. However, from a cricket perspective, everyone is prepared for the World Cup, and we have prepared well for this World Cup” Nabi stated.

“When we landed in Dubai, there were some complications with those concerns. However, the team will be well prepared for the future games as well as for tomorrow’s games after these final two warm-up games and practise sessions” he said.

“Yeah, it’s not ideal,” the all-rounder said of the team’s preparation for the showpiece event. “But from the last one and a half weeks, when the team arrived, to the current time and everything finished two warm-up games and around one week practise sessions, I think it’s for those cricketers playing cricket all over the world, especially five, six, and seven players are playing different franchise cricket from last six months, we are in touch with cricket.”

“There are a few players that are only concerned with their health and getting along with the squad, and the team’s competition is more essential. And we have been doing so for the past one and a half weeks, and we are well prepared, insha’Allah, to do our best and succeed,” he said.
