Rajkummar Rao’s view on Hum Do Hamare Do, HIT, Chupke Chupke, Badhaai Do, and Monica O My Darling
Rajkumar Rao is a man on the go, hopping from one set to the next. In an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla before the premiere of his Diwali film, Hum Do Hamare Do, the actor discussed the film as well as his future plans. “I really enjoyed the narration of the film,” Rajkummar replied when questioned about Hum Do Hamare Do. There are so many talented actors in the film, and I knew it would be entertaining.”
Raj has been in a number of quirky comedies set in Indian small towns throughout the years. “I don’t want to own any genre, I want to do everything,” he said when asked whether he wanted to claim this space. When it comes to script selection, I go with my gut. I just go with it if I like a character and the story. As a performer, the script as a whole should excite me.”
While Raj began his career with non-commercial films such as Shahid and Trapped, he turned gears later last year. Raj, on the other hand, is concerned with finding the right script. “I don’t divide my films into commercial and non-commercial categories. Every film, in my opinion, is commercial because money is involved. I understand what you’re trying to communicate, and that shift occurred for me after Bareily Ki Barfi,” he explained.
Currently, the actor is filming Hit: The First Case, which is an official remake of a Telugu film. He’s also working on the Badhaai Ho sequel, as well as a few other projects. “I am really loving the process of shooting for HIT: The First Case with director, Sailesh Kolanu,” he remarked of the cast. He, like my Badhaai Do director Harshavardhan Kulkarni, is incredibly talented. I’ve seen the first cut of Badhaai Ho, and it’s a fantastic film. HIT, on the other hand, is a suspenseful crime drama that will have viewers on the edge of their seats.”
Monica O My Darling, a Sriram Raghavan production, and a remake of Chupke Chupke are also in the works for Raj. “I have no knowledge about Chupke Chupke, and you’ll have to contact the creators about it. Monica O My Darling has piqued my interest. We all adore Sriram Sir, and Vasan (Bala) is in charge of the direction. He added, “The script was great, and I was convinced to play this part on the first reading.”
