Shakib Al Hasan surpasses Lasith Malinga in the ICC T20 World Cup to set a new record

While bowling for Bangladesh in their T20 World Cup opener against Scotland in Al Amerat on Sunday, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan set a new T20I record. Shakib grabbed the wickets of Richie Berrington and Michael Leask after his side won the toss and chose to bowl first, breaking Lasith Malinga’s previous total of 107 wickets and became the top wicket-taker in T20 internationals. Shakib dismissed Berrington in the 11th over of the match before dismissing Leask two deliveries later.

Malinga got 107 wickets in 84 T20Is for Sri Lanka, but Shakib has surpassed him in his 89th T20I for Bangladesh.

Shakib is also the first cricketer to have taken over 100 wickets in T20 internationals while also scoring over a thousand runs with the bat.

Shakib has 1763 runs with the bat for Bangladesh in T20Is, with an average of 22.89 and a strike rate of 121.41. He has nine fifties on his record, with an 84 as his best.
