Sunil Gavaskar believes that Virat Kohli has given Royal Challengers Bangalore a brand recognition that few others can match
Even if he didn’t finish his leadership tenure the way he would have liked, Virat Kohli has given Royal Challengers Bangalore a profile that few cricketers can match, according to the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. Kohli’s goal of capturing an IPL trophy with RCB came to an end on Monday when Kolkata Knight Riders defeated them by four wickets in the eliminator. According to Gavaskar, not all scripts are written in the way that gamers want them to be. Kohli had indicated that he would step down as RCB captain at the conclusion of the prestigious 14th season of the tournament.
Gavaskar to Star Sports, “He has given RCB that kind of profile, the brand recognition that very (few) cricketers have provided to their franchise.”
The veteran India captain compared Kohli’s final match as RCB captain to the farewells of Donald Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar. “Everyone wants to end on a high note. However, these things do not always happen in accordance with your or your fans’ wishes. Consider what occurred to Sir Don Bradman.
