Tesla’s Shanghai plant is expected to produce 300,000 cars from January to September
Despite a global semiconductor shortage, Tesla’s Shanghai factory is anticipated to produce 300,000 cars in the first nine months of the year, culminating by a delivery rush at the end of the July-September quarter, according to sources.
Model 3 sedans and Model Y sport-utility vehicles are produced at the factory for domestic and international markets, including Germany and Japan.
According to statistics from the China Passenger Car Association, some 240,000 vehicles were exported from the factory in the first eight months, with many of them headed for export. Tesla has not revealed any information about the factory’s production.
Because they were not allowed to speak to the media, the sources sought anonymity. A request for comment from Tesla was not immediately returned.
Tesla’s factory is expected to produce 450,000 vehicles this year, including 66,100 for export, according to a local official in August.
Tesla is employing legal and external relations managers in China, where the company is under criticism for data security and customer service issues.
