Through his acting, Deepak Dobriyal strives to redefine humour and tragedy
Deepak Dobriyal, a well-known actor recognised for his versatility, will star in the upcoming comedic thriller ‘Aafat-e-Ishq.’ While most of the time he gets to play comedic roles in films and directors try to entice him with so-called “difficult roles,” the actor says he wants to break free from such cliches and instead redefine humour and tragedy via his acting.
After the success of his characters ‘Mamdu’ from ‘Delhi 6’, ‘Pappi’ from ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, and ‘Angrezi Medium,’ Deepak became one of the go-to performers for many filmmakers when it comes to comedy.
According to IANS, the actor said: “I believe that whatever comedic roles I’ve portrayed have grown so famous and well-received that the rest of my on-screen emotions have been overlooked. So I’d just gotten two comedy offers in a row. I turned down a number of roles because I wanted to get out of that loop, so I went looking for something fresh, something hard. However, I’ve recently realised that the phrase “difficult role” has become a cliche. That is why I am searching for a different approach in a simple function where I may discover a challenge and deliver it via my performance.”
Deepak used the example of late Irrfan Khan’s previous movie, ‘Angrezi Medium,’ to illustrate his point “Despite the fact that it was initially a comedic character, I noticed how people’s eyes welled up with tears as they watched the comedy’s tragedy unfold. I intend to do more of these kinds of shows in order to reinvent my performance and break free from stereotypes.”
He plays a police officer in the upcoming film ‘Aafat-e-Ishq,’ in which he has a soft spot for the female heroine, ‘Lallo,’ played by Neha Sharma.
The film is an official remake of the Hungarian film ‘Liza, the Fox-Fairy,’ which was a great hit globally and received multiple awards at film festivals.
‘Aafat-E-Ishq,’ produced by Zee Studios and directed by Indrajit Nattoji, also stars Amit Sial, Namit Das, and Ila Arun, and will premiere on ZEE5 on October 29.
